After School EnrichmentThe fall session of our Open School Enrichment Program will commence the week of September 10, 2018. We are able to offer these classes at the low rater of $5 per meeting time due to the proceeds from our Fall Ball Fundraiser. All sessions run from 3:30 -5 pm unless otherwise indicated. Enrichment Offerings Starting in September!

Chess with Jim Macur
Tuesdays Sept 11, 19, 26, Oct 2, 9, and 16
Grades 1-6
Registration Cost: $30

Learn the moves, tactics, and strategies of this incredible centuries-old strategy game.  From beginning to check-mate, have fun playing your friends and completing chess challenges along the way. We will also introduce how to play the 4 player chess game "Bug House." All skill levels welcome.



Destination Imagination with Kelly Ward
Fridays throughout the School Year
Grades 2-5
Registration Cost: $60

Destination Imagination’s programs teach kids how to work in teams to solve fun, hands-on challenges. The team will choose a challenge together during our first meetings from a list of 7 choices. They will work together to come up with solutions, trialing different ideas and learning teamwork. The challenges all have a STEM and Arts focus. This program will run Fall-Spring. In the spring, the team will have a chance to participate in a local tournament against teams from other local elementary schools.

Come one and all to show off your artistic side! No experience necessary. We will discuss basic color theory and other elements of design and practice group critics to help students navigate discussion of technique and learn to discuss their work beyond “I like it.” Every student will work with paints, pencils, pens, cut paper and other found objects as sources of creative work. Start your year with a new masterpiece.

Green House Club with Mary and Ana
Thursdays Sept 13, 20, 27, Oct 4, 11, 18
Grades K-12

Students K-12 are welcome to join our club. Come join Mary and Ana to plant in, and care for our Green House.  Together we can create a space featuring a mini-rain forest along with growing lots of food.  We will plant and care for a variety of flowers and vegetables. 


Living Future Challenge with Rachelle Macur
Mondays throughout the Fall Semester
Grades 4-12
Registration Cost $60

The program will focus on deepening our appreciation for the world and all living things while inspiring action to make the world a better place.  

Youth will come up with a locally-based "challenge" they are personally inspired to contribute to.  They will develop an action plan, execute that plan, and help put our world on a path towards a living, thriving future.



Martial Arts for Beginners with David Kirton CLASS IS FULL!
Mondays throughout the Fall Semester
Grades K-2

This class will be open to both beginners and students who have experience. We will be exploring the techniques of different martial arts such as Karate, Tae Kwan Do, Kenpo and Kung Fu. Through this training students will learn self-discipline, self-defense, and how to stay safe and healthy. Come join in the fun!

Soccer club is open to all levels. We will work on individual skill development as well as team concepts on the field behind our school. 

Ukulele Club for Beginners with Melody
Tuesdays through the Fall Semester
Grades 1-adults
Registration Cost: $60
This class is for students who have very little to no experience playing the ukulele. We will work on basic technique such as hand and finger position, strumming skills and playing simple melodies as well as a learn few chords and songs. It is for students and adults 1st grade and older. If you have not been in Ukulele club before this is the class for you. If you have done Ukulele Club but would like a refresher or more practice, this is the place for you.


Ukulele Club for Intermediate and Advanced Players with Melody and Steve
Thursdays throughout the Fall Semester
Grades 1-adults
Registration Cost: $60
This class is for students and adults who were involved in Ukulele club last year or feel like being challenged more. You should know how to play basic chords like C, G, D, and F. We will learn more chords, strums, really dig into playing notes and melodies and of course learn some really fun songs!

Ultimate Frisbee Team with Phil Lohre
Tuesdays and Thursdays Throughout the Fall Semester (Begins September 6!)
Grades: 9-12
Registration Cost: $20

The Open School Ultimate team, Catch of the Day, plans to compete against other high schools this fall.  This season is MIXED competition, so both girls and boys are welcome. No experience is necessary, but a willingness to run, be a part of a team and have fun sure help.  Experienced middle schoolers willing to commit to the team are welcome. This is an after-school activity and home and away games take place Thursdays after school beginning September 6th.  The State Championships are November 3rd and 4th. There is a fee for tournaments and jerseys.  Be a part of an awesome Open School tradition!


Yoga with Jackie

Yoga is a great way to build strength, flexibility and practice mindfulness. Whether you’re an experienced yogi or are new to the practice, learn some yoga poses and relaxation techniques. Students are welcome to drop in for $5 a session as well! Bring a Yoga mat!

Autumn Garden to Table Cooking Class with Lily Steirer

Grades: Grades 1-5

From pumpkins and fruits to stored vegetables and grains, we will investigate each part of the plant by growing, cooking, and enjoying them in the kitchen. Every week, the Garden to Table Cooking Class will include basic lessons about both gardening and cooking. This class will be an adventure in tasting and exploring new flavors that come straight from the earth.

In addition, the class will be mostly vegetarian, but we will also eat nuts, dairy, eggs, and gluten. If a student has an allergy or intolerance, please inquire about possible accommodations.

Kids love to tinker and create new things, especially for the ones they love. We will have a blast making one of a kind treasures to take home or gift to a special person.


Painting with Molly

Come create and have fun.  We will explore different styles and materials to paint with.  Some projects may take one day and some we’ll work on for a number of days.

We will split into two teams (Grades 2-3 and Grades 4-6) and compete in an indoor soccer recreation league at the Denver Sports Center. Games will be on Saturdays.
