Down River

Down River began as trip class in 2001. Scott Bain organized the class and the trip to go down the San Juan River in Utah. They paddled past 800 year Ancestral Puebloan ruins and large petroglyph rock art panels, accessible only by the river.

Megan Cronin has been the primary staff member pursuing the trip during the past few years. Now the focus is on the geography and geology of the Colorado River. Of course, politics and water rights also play into the curriculum too.

Edward Abbey's "Down the River" and "Desert Solitaire" as well as Will Hobb's "Down River" are literary influences for the Down River trip.
