After School Enrichment
The Winter 2019 session of our Open School Enrichment Program will commence the week of January 28, 2019. We are able to offer these classes at the low rater of $5 per meeting time due to the proceeds from our Fall Ball Fundraiser. Art with Nina and Shannon

Find your inner artist. Use a variety of media to inspire your next masterpiece. At the end of each class, come together with classmates and share your work and use critical thinking to dive into your work a little deeper.


Chess I with Jim Macur

Grades K-5

Chess 1 is a great class for learning how to play chess and to develop some basic skills for enjoying this great game. Beginners and Intermediate players welcome!



Chess II with Jim Macur

Chess 2 is for players who are comfortable with basic chess moves and are ready to take their game to the next level. We will discuss and practice strategies, tactics, openings and end games. The 12 weeks will conclude with an in-house tournament that will include prizes for the top 3 players. 


Comic Book Club with Molly Rubin

Come and author your own comic book!  We will read comics to help us learn what comic authors do and then let our creativity take us away!

Cooking Around the World with Lilly Steirer
Thursdays, January 31, February 7, 14, 21, 28 and March 7
Grades 3-6

Each week we will learn about foods from a different country. We will then prepare, cook and dine on a dish. This class will focus on knife skills, cooking at the stove, using an oven, kitchen safety and more. 

Environmental Club with Rachelle Macur and Liz Maupin

Grades: 4-12
Registration Cost: $40
The environmental club will focus on improving our school's  environmental impact and make JCOS the "greenest" school ever!  Some of the things we might do are: improve the school's energy and water use, start composting and recycling programs, enhance our wildifle habitats for pollinators, and whatever else the students wish to take on. 

Hip Hop Dance with Jana Durbin

We are going to workout and learn classic hip hop moves! We will show off our skills with a choreographed dance routine for our parents and loved ones!

Martial Arts for Grades K-2 with David Kirton

Give your child the gift of studying martial arts. They will learn basic punches, kicks, forms (routines) and self-defense. Through all this they will develop discipline, confidence and good health.


Martial Arts for Grades 3-9 with David Kirton

This class we will be exploring techniques and from different martial arts including Karate, Kung Fu, Jeet Kune Do, and others. We will focus on Self-Defense, Drills and Forms. This class will be for everyone whether they have experience or not.  


Mixed Sports with Carlos Robinett

We will play different games in the gym; kickball, whiffle ball, tag games, and more 

Slam Poetry with Jess
Fridays, February 1, 8, 22, March 1, 8, and April 5
Grades: 6-12
Registration Cost: $30
This program will involve writing and performing Spoken Word and Slam style poetry. The class would involve writing instruction of various forms of poetry that is particularly performative and performance instruction. Students can choose to participate in either or both competitive Slam Style poetry or in Spoken Word non competitive poetry with an option to perform their style of work for an audience  at the end of the 6 week cycle.

This club is open to players of any level. A non-competitive, fun environment where students can grow their skills and learn how to work together. 


Spanish with Aly Warren

Learn Spanish through cooking, singing, and learning with Aly! We will explore cultures and the beautiful language through play and experience! Aprende español con nosotros!

Ukulele for Intermediate Players with Melody

If you are ready to learn more and you have some experience with the ukulele, then this is the class for you. We will learn some new chords and songs. No ukulele required. All ages are welcome.

Code Breakers with Kelly Ward

Stretch your thinking by joining us to learn to break and create secret codes, solve puzzles and riddles, and "escape" from an escape room challenge! New challenges and mysteries to solve each week.


Garden to Table Cooking Class with Lilly Steirer

Grades: Grades K-3

Learn how to garden, while cooking and enjoying the tasty delights that the earth provides. Every week we will get our hands dirty in both the garden and the kitchen as we navigate our way around the various parts of the plants that are delicious to eat. If a student has an allergy or intolerance, please inquire about possible accommodations.



Hiking Club with Rachelle Macur and Mary Korte
Wednesdays, April 3, 10, 17, 24, May 1 and 8
Grades: K-12
Registration Cost: $30
In this class we'll explore the outdoors and enjoy time in nature.  Every week we'll go to a different park/open space in the area to hike.  In order to give us enough time, the class will end at 5;30pm and we'll meet back at the school.


Tinker Club with Melody
Tuesdays, April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, and May 7
Grades: 1-6

This club will learn how to use basic tools such as hammer, screwdrivers saws to make some simple projects. Emphasis is on building skills and using your creativity to invent solutions to problems. If you like to work with your hands then this is the class for you.
