Applying For Enrollment At The Open School

The Jefferson County Open School is an option school and enrollment is conducted using the Jeffco Choice Enrollment process. Choice Enrollment takes place in two rounds. Besides the Jefferson County Public Schools application process, outlined below, the Open School asks applicants to complete the following Open School specific requirements:

Elementary (K-5):
Attend an Information Night event
Secondary (6-12)
Complete an enrollment artifact
Attend an Information Night event
Attend a Visitation Day event

We reserve the right to consider the applications of those students who have completed these Open School specific requirements before those of students who have not completed these requirements. Details for each of these requirements can be found by clicking on pages in the Enrollment drop down above.

Once our requirements have been met, applicants in each round are prioritized as follows, listed from highest priority to lowest priority:

  1. Students who reside in Jefferson County, AND have a sibling who is currently attending the Open School and also projected to be enrolled at Open for the following school year.
  2. Students who reside in Jefferson County, AND they are the child of a full-time staff member at the Open School.
  3.  Jeffco resident and attending feeder school (DOES NOT APPLY TO OPEN SCHOOL)
  4. Students who reside in Jefferson County.
  5. Students who do not reside in Jefferson County, BUT have a sibling who is currently attending the Open School and also projected to be enrolled at Open for the following school year.
  6. Students who do not reside in Jefferson County, BUT they are the child of a full-time staff member at the Open School.
  7. Students who do not reside in Jefferson County.

FIRST ROUND: The first round of choice enrollment for the next school year immediately follows winter break and extends through the last school day in January. The first round of choice enrollment is conducted as a lottery. For this round, applications are not prioritized as to when they are received, as long as they are received within the window. Applications and artifacts are collected throughout the window and then a lottery is conducted after the window has ended. Students who have met all enrollment requirements are accepted on a space available basis. Waiting lists, which are prioritized, will be created if applicants exceed space available. A separate application must be completed and submitted for each child. Placing an application during the first round of choice enrollment represents the best chance at obtaining an enrollment spot at the Open School.

Any student who applies for enrollment, but is not accepted during the first round of choice enrollment will remain on the prioritized wait list and carried over to the second round. New applications for enrollment are accepted throughout the second round window and prioritized on a first come, first considered basis.
