I first visited the Open School with my two children in the spring of 2009 and I have been captivated by this most wonderful school and its thriving and vibrant community ever since. I have long felt that the educational conversations I am most passionate about are happening at the Open School.
During my time at Open School, I have seen the school from the perspective of a parent, teacher/advisor, assistant principal, and principal. Over the years, I have had the privilege of traveling with Open Schoolers both close to home and far afield, slept in countless tents, on church sanctuary floors, Boundary Waters moss, and once on top of a pile of luggage in a bus bound for Washington DC. I have watched as Open School advisors and staff cultivate deep relationships with students, curate beautiful classroom and travel experiences, and work tirelessly to inspire our students to think critically and find agency in their own lives.
A few years ago, Open School celebrated 50 years as an Option in Jeffco. My commitment and intent is to lead with vision, humility, and compassion to ensure that the school is still inspiring students to create the world that ought to be well into and beyond its 100th year.
The Open School is a remarkable place filled with brilliant people and I am honored to be one of those contributing to the growth and success of this exceptional community.
